If you want to become a professional then you need to become prepared mentally or physically, you should always have that back up plan when something goes wrong because there will always be something wrong and if you're not prepared of it... you will be stunned, you will freeze, you will embarrass yourself. Being a professional doesn't necessarily mean you're working on a corporate company or a high class business, it means you're doing your job on time, you're not complaining and you adapt to any kind of pressure situation. You will only know if you're a real professional if you have these five traits:

1. You're always on time, you never miss deadlines. You don't care if the deadline is short or long, you accept the job so you are going to finish it even if you're so damn tired, you don't care about your emotions, you don't care if you have enough sleep or not... you just do it, you push through and do whatever it takes to pass the project on time or even before the deadline. You focused on it until it's done, you never do other things, you set aside the pleasures, you're so serious about your work and you never wast a single second.

People who misses deadlines or ask for an extension were not real professionals, they were fakes, stop working with them, stop talking to them. Time is the most important thing, if you can't take care of it then stop hyping yourself up that you can pass it before deadline.

2. You're always prepared for a disaster. There will always be something wrong, there will always be a bad luck or a disaster but you are prepared for it. You don't care about the bad weather, you don't care about the traffic... you will just go no matter what, you will execute even if there are lot of disturbances going around you. You are a professional and your main duty is to get the job done. Your mindset will never change even if a difficulty suddenly show along the way, you have the same approach before and after accepting the job, you just don't care at all even if it's hard, you just knew that all you need is to take actions and everything will be fine.

3. You knew how to explain yourself. If a client asks you why is this happening or why is that happening, you know how to explain yourself, you know how to get away with it and make them feel secured. You know how to please them and make them trust you even if there is something weird happening. You're not making excuses, you are just confident that everything is under control and you will find a solution if there are unexpected mistakes.

4. There is always a back up plan. You don't have a single plan, you always have plan B or plan C, you have a lot of reservations. A professional photographer will not come to an event with only one battery of his camera, he always have reservations. There is always a back up plan when something goes wrong, you're so confident with what you have, you may rattle a little bit but you never freak out. In any kind of uncertainty... you have a plan how to correct it.

5. You goal is to finish. You have nothing else on your mind other than to finish. You're a finisher, you have killer instincts. You push through despite of heavy stress, your willpower is insane, your gas tank never get depleted, you're always moving forward because you knew you're going to succeed and make your clients happy. Once you accepted a single job... you start right away and never stop until it's done. In your mind you will finish whatever it is that needs to be done.

6. You're so cool. You're so calm because you are prepared, you knew everything in your project, you mastered it, you don't go crazy when something goes wrong. You stay classy, calm and relaxed. You're always in the moment and you simply just go with the flow, everything was already set up, you're not worrying about anything anymore, you know that the remaining task was already easy because you've finished the 99 percent of it. You always have this positive vibe because you're confident that your work is enough and will be liked because you put a lot of hours on it, you never bummed while doing it, you didn't play around.

7. You never quit. You show up even if the client has an attitude, you still give your best even if you're offended, you never quit because you're a real professional. You're a finisher, you stick with the project until the end. You don't care about thousands of revisions or request, you just do what is being required. You persevere, you power through... your mindset is they must quit first before you.

8. You care about the process first before the money. You want to finish first and get the job done before you ask for a money. You knew that you will get paid, you don't worry about it, you're more concerned about the job in front of you. Always thinking about the money will make you under perform because you're always worrying, you are out of your focus and you are not giving your very best. Money will come, you don't need to worry about it anymore, do the work first and everything will be fine.

9. You do what you promised. If you promise them silver cake with carabao on top of it... you will bring it, if you promise you can deliver in less than 24 hours you will do it. You always over achieve, you never make excuses or find an easy way out, you do what you promise you even exceed their expectations. Stop having a big mouth, stop being arrogant if you can't deliver what you promised.

If you don't have at least 5 of these traits then you're still far from being a professional, check your attitude, maybe you need to change to that your life will change. Being a professional is hard but people will respect you, you will respect yourself too because you always knew you can get the job done, you will feel confident and your value will increase.
